Watch the film and find out more about Fresia's job as a
facilities manager in a local council.
My name is Fresia Campbell and my job title is Facilities
Manager. I look after the corporate cleaning contract and
also the corporate security contract and added on to that I also
look after the common parts within a building to ensure that it's
safe for staff to use and it covers all the heath and safety
regulations.
I stayed in school until I was 16, then I had to start thinking
about career options. So I went to the careers office and we had
some advice what was the best route I could take. An admin
assistant was one of the routes they suggested, and I got six jobs.
So I looked at the six and decided which one paid the most
and that's the job I went for, and that was the Cabinet office at
Whitehall.
Along the way I had some really inspiring and influential
managers that have encouraged me. Where I started as an admin
assistant they saw more in me, and they were able to pull more out,
by either advising me to go for a particular job or just training
me up, so I've been very fortunate while I've been in Lewisham to
be trained up and encouraged to try other areas of work.
Outside my work I'm a foster carer, so I look after young
people. My passion is to go and work in the community. I believe
you can do anything you want to do; you may not necessarily have
the qualifications but you can find a way round it and get the
qualifications. I've had to go back to learning to get qualified
for the job I'm doing at the moment so it's not impossible.
If it's not impossible for me to go back after so long, it's not
impossible for anybody else.
