Case study
Personnel Assistant, Matt
Matt, Personnel Assistant
Leicestershire County Council
I've worked for the council for three and a half years. Before
coming here, I did some clerical work and then worked for a small
marketing company for a while. I also gained some experience
working abroad.
To get this job I needed a minimum of two years administrative
experience in a personnel/education setting, good IT and
organisational skills and good communication skills. I decided to
apply, as it was a good opportunity for career progression.
My current role involves advising on pay and conditions and
employee relations procedures, administering pension applications,
ensuring correct payment of salaries, administration work relating
to contracts of employment and contract amendments.
The best thing about the job is giving advice to people on the
telephone. The most challenging part of the role is the high
workload.
I have recently begun studying for Chartered Institute of
Personnel and Development professional qualifications supported by
the council, and hope that in future, these will help me to gain
higher level posts within strategic HR or management.
