Watch the film and find out more about Will's job as a marketing
officer in a local council:
My name's Will Bouquet and I am a marketing officer at Lewisham
Council. Essentially my job is making messages for people that live
in Lewisham, e.g. it might be around recycling, or it might be
around events that the council is holding, like black history
month, which is an event that we hold annually, or people's day,
which is south east London's biggest community festival. Our job is
to talk to people in the organisation and on their behalf make
messages, that be can be understood and are attractive for people
who live in Lewisham.
In the city, I worked in a corporate action and mergers
department as an assistant. I'd left university and decided I
wanted to go into that line of work, because, I'm not quite sure
why now, but I think it was financial, financially driven. I was
sitting there at my computer one day, and I thought "I don't want
to be doing this for a very long time", and I took some time away,
took some time to think about things and I applied for an advert in
the paper, to become an assistant here, in the press office.
It's an excellent place to work; lots of people in the council,
also live in the area. I think it's something like half of the
people that work for Lewisham Council live in the area; they have a
vested interest in caring for their area. So you have a lot of very
motivated people, a lot of people who want to work for where they
live - it's not just a motivation for personal gain.
