Case study

Conservation Administrator, Louise

Louise, Conservation Administrator
Broadland District Council

After my A Levels, I really wanted a job that would enable me to develop and learn whilst working. A job with the council seemed to offer what I was looking for and I applied for several different positions. I was offered a job as conservation administrator and in recognition of my desire to study the council has been sponsoring me through an HNC in Countryside Management.

I really enjoy my job because I am part of a dedicated team that cares about protecting and conserving the district we serve. We have to work very closely as a team and my colleagues have been really supportive. I often go on site with the conservation officers, which has enabled me to understand the nature of their jobs and has encouraged me to develop a career in this area. I also enjoy dealing with customer enquiries and helping them to resolve their issues.

In the future I hope to stay with Broadland and one day will hopefully become a fully qualified conservation officer, specialising in trees and landscape, as this is something I now feel very passionate about. I am grateful to the council, as without their support and development I wouldn't have found a job and career path, which I thoroughly enjoy!
